How to stop games eating your battery

July 8, 2026 · Markus Feldmann

Nothing kills a gaming session faster than watching your battery percentage tumble. The good news is that most heavy games give you the tools to slow that down, buried in a settings menu nobody reads.

Start with the frame rate. Dropping from 60 to 30 frames per second is the single biggest saving in most games, and for slower titles you'll barely notice the difference. Next, look for a graphics quality slider and knock it down one step.

Screen brightness is the sneaky one. A phone screen at full brightness burns power constantly, so dimming it a little, or letting auto-brightness handle it, adds up over an hour. Turning off unnecessary vibration helps too.

Finally, heat and battery go hand in hand. If your phone gets hot, it drains faster and may quietly throttle performance. Taking the case off during long sessions genuinely helps more than people expect.
