Big Bass Blast

★★★★☆ 4.3 Editor rating

Big Bass Blast is one of those games that looks simple on the surface and then quietly eats an afternoon. You tap, you time things, and colourful fish and reels spin across a cartoonish lake. The whole thing is built around rhythm and reaction rather than deep menus, which makes it perfect for short breaks.

Controls are pure touch, and they work well. Taps register cleanly, there's a satisfying little animation for every action, and the game never asks you to do anything awkward with two thumbs at once. On our test phones it stayed smooth even after long sessions, though the screen does get a bit warm during the busier animated sequences.

What surprised us was how readable everything stays. The interface is loud and playful without becoming confusing, and you always know what just happened. It's the kind of casual game you keep on your phone for the bus, and it never overstays its welcome in a single sitting.
